AAA has added the Athens metropolitan statistical area to its data on gasoline prices in Georgia. The Athens MSA includes Clarke, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties.
Glenn McLendon, district manager with AAA's Atlanta division, said he was surprised to find that the Athens MSA reflected the state's highest average price-per-gallon for gasoline. Previously, the AAA staff thought Atlanta was the state's most expensive gasoline market.
The figures, which are updated daily, are compiled by a service company that obtains per-gallon prices paid at various gasoline pumps, McLendon said.
The "fuel gauge report" can be viewed by clicking on the "AAA Gas Prices" selection on the main menu.
